It's an oldie but a goodie this time!
With the recent release of Mega Man 9, I have been playing alot of classic games as of late. It is with that sort of nostalgia in mind I bring you my game of the month...(Drum Roll please!)
EARTHBOUND!!!!
Earthbound is one of the greatest RPGs ever created. I can guarantee that if you have owned a SNES, you have at least heard of this game!
Gameplay: 8/10 Earthbound plays like a typical RPG. You can cast different forms of magic, attack, defend, and all of the stuff a turn based RPG has. It does nothing really revolutionary in this aspect, but it still does a fine job of not screwing it up. Graphics: 10/10 The graphics in this game are 16 bit, but they are so cute and adorable that they will bring up a warm fuzzy feeling in your stomach. Everything in the game looks like a great amount of time was put into it, which is nice to see, especially in a 16 bit game. Controls: 8/10 The controls in this game can be confusing at first, but after about 10 minutes with the game you will be very comfortable. It’s weird having to talk to people with either the L-button or physically selecting it from the in-game menu, but after you figure it out, you will get to the point where you won’t have to think about it. Story:1 million/10 The story in this game is just spectacular. It is about a young boy who has to travel around the world trying to stop a catastrophic event from happening. The reason why I give it a million is because like Shenmue, every single character has their own little personality. It gives the game this uniqueness and charm that simply cannot be reduplicated.
Overall: ?/10 I cannot simply give a grade on this game. It has such a unique charm that will have a different effect on everyone. I’d much rather you guys go out and formulate your own opinion of the game instead of listening to mine. It’s an experience I can guarantee you won’t forget.
On a side note, this series is also referred to as the Mother series. There are 3 games in the series, with Earthbound being the second. The 3rd, called Mother 3, was only released in Japan, but an English translation patch was recently released. Do yourself a favor and go out and download the rom and play it! Comments (3)
