From the latest issue of Famitsu (as of Sept 12th) Shenmue Online is pending, not cancelled. Quote from the man him self after the jump.
"Due to various reasons, Shenmue Online is pending now" said Yu Suzuki in an interview with Yoshiki Okamoto, which was included in the latest issue of Famitsu released on Sept. 12. At first he was reluctant to answer when he was asked about the current status of the game. But, when he was asked the same question again at the end of the interview, he made up his mind and gave that brief answer. He added "I'm hoping for restarting the development of Shenmue Online. I haven't given it up yet." *The credit goes to Torien at Shenmue DoJo for finding the interview first. Comments (4)

I guess it was last year Sega annoucent no Shenmue in the next 3-5 years and now also this happens to shenmue online.
Suzuki has good Ideas but i guess its hart to deal with making it real.
Lately i just think Shenmue is very beautiefull game with beautiefull story but tragic end and i probably wont discover how the story does continue......
